Our ideal food plan is organic, (if possible), and rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products. It also includes some fish, poultry, legumes, low in sodium, and a small number of nuts and seeds. We also recommend limiting foods and beverages that are high in saturated fat and sugar. By focusing on high-quality, nutrient-dense foods, you create a diet that is naturally high in fiber and low in sugar, cholesterol, and total fat.
As you cut out added sugars and sodium and focus on increasing intake of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes, you’re filling yourself with essential nutrients like protein, fiber, and healthy fats, which can stabilize your blood sugar and keep you feeling full longer. Eliminating processed junk food is another important step toward living a healthy life. By making good food choices, you reduce your risk of developing excess belly fat, something that is linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, and obesity.
OptimumU Food Tracking makes it easy to log what you’re eating. (It won’t always be a perfect match, so just choose the category that best describes your overall food choices for the day.)
Mostly vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds, purple or sweet potatoes
Some vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, meats
White flour pasta, white flour bread, a few vegetables, meats
Processed frozen dinners, heavily processed prepared foods
Dairy, fast food, sweets, soda
Deep-fried foods, sweets, trans fats, artificial sweeteners, overcooked/charred meats, processed meats
It’s not that calories don’t matter, but the more important thing is that you prioritize getting nutritious whole foods that can satisfy your hunger while doing your mind and body good.
